The DalStudio is located in Mon-Repos Corfu, 26 minutes walking from Corfu’s Old town and just 2 minutes from the entrance of Paleopolis (old City of Corfu), an archaeological site surrounded by ancient walls where ruins of the ancient Kerkyra still can be seen. The entrance is free and one can walk, run or cycle along a beautiful path under the shadow of large trees.
The scenery is wonderful and peaceful, one can hear the sound of the sea under a sky full of birds. Many local people visit Mon-Repos to relax reading a book. Along the trip many buildings can be seen like St. Eufemia monastery, the old open theater that is still used today, the Congress Centre, the Tito Palace, a Byzantine church, an ancient Roman house and Mon Repos Palace.
The Mon Repos Palace was built in 1830 for the English Minister Adams and it belonged for long time to the Greek Royal Family. The Duke of Edinburgh and husband to the Queen of England Elisabeth II was born in Mon-Repos and the Royal family had sole possession of Mon-Repos until 1967. Today it hosts the museum of Paleopolis which displays the ruins of Era’s temple, the Venetian fountain plus what remained of the Doric Kardaki temple. This temple was built in honor of the God Apollo at the end of VI century b.C. using local limestone coming from the quarry of Varipatadon.
Along the road, one can see other ancient ruins such as the Christian basilica of Kerkyra, some pavement sections of the ancient agorà (market), the Roman bathes and the boatyards of the port of Alkinoos. In addition, at the end of Paleopolis down hill towards the sea, people can reach the Doric temple of Kardaki or else known the King’s Royal baths and enjoy swimming and sun worship.
Monastery of Vlaherena
Additionally, approximately 28 minutes by walk, 15 minutes by the blue bus Corfu’s public transportation (pick up from the Mon-Repos entry) or 9 minutes via a vehicle one can visit the iconic place of the small monastery of Vlaherena and the small island of Pontikonisi which is placed in the middle of the sea, and it is connected to a small port just next to the monastery. From there you can get a taxi boat to visit the island and visit the XII Century church of Pantokratora.
Plane spotting
Additionally, you can cross the Halkiopoulos lagoon by walking or cycle via the small bridge connecting the two locations of Kanoni and Perama. The small bridge is a spectacular place to watch and experience the tremendous blast of the airplanes on final approach for landing before touch down, flying just a few meters above the bridge. In the same area of Vlacherena, there is a nice snack – coffee place next to the sea, and just behind that space there is a sandy beach one can enjoy swimming and relax during sun-worship.
Mon-Repos Royal baths
Approximately 9 minutes from the DalStudio there are another 2 famous places, the Mon-Repos Royal baths (continuation from Doric Kardaki) and Anemomylos, places for swimming and sun-worship. In addition one can find many Greek Taverns and enjoy great food, enjoy a coffee or a drink later in the evening at the same area.
Close to the DalStudio there are 2 markets guests can shop for their stay, the closest is a mini market and it is approximately 4 minutes by walk walk. A (mini) super market is approximately 10 minutes by walk. The bigger super markets are approximately 3 kms from Corfu center with the exeption of the lidl branch which is approximately 20 minutes by walk walk from the studio, located in wider area of the airport.
Despite Corfu and the Mon Repos area featuring buildings rooted in traditional Corfiot architecture, largely influenced by the Venetian rule (1386 – 1797), a few buildings were constructed during the military dictatorship of General Papadopoulos. Unfortunately, these buildings do not reflect the Venetian architectural style. The building housing DalStudio.eu, along with its neighboring structures, was built in the 1970s with minimal architectural consideration. However, efforts are currently underway to redesign these buildings to align more closely with Corfu’s traditional architectural style.
Restaurants
Restaurants and fast food shops can be found approximately 10 minutes walking from the studio depending the pace of walk as well as mini – medium markets for shopping are approximately 6 and 10 minutes walking. The DalStudio is on Google Maps and you can always find your way to – from the studio with ease.
